recipe asks for starter

just found a recipe for Amish Cinnamon Bread
Day 1 - receive starter.

where do i get the "starter" from?
can i make my own?

You can get starter from a friend (hence the Amish "Friendship" Bread name) or you can buy it, in dried form, from your local megamart. Gold Rush is a brand that I've used and it works well.

After you get it started, your starter could last for generations, with proper care.

I typed "Amish Friendship Bread Starter" into Google and it came back with 17,500 hits. Here's one of them.
