Am I in the right place?

I'm an avid amateur cook, by no means a chef. I hope I'm welcome here 'cause every time I try to stretch my skills I end up with more questions than answers.

Best,
Tom

Yes, Tom, you're not only in the right place on this board, but in the best place on the web for avid home cooks and professionals to learn and share. How did you develop your love of cooking and food?

As you browse this site you'll fine cooking articles, cookbook reviews, recipes, a photo gallery and a search tool to help you find what you're looking for. While the Professionals' forums are read-only for home cooks like you and me, the many General forums are open to all. We hope you visit often to read and participate. Let us know if you have any questions.

Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to learning and sharing. As far as my love of cooking, that came mostly from a love of eating!. More seriously, Mom was a really solid, good cook if somewhat pedestrian--farm girl who cooked good, wholesome food but was always up to try new things as her limited means would allow. Also, she was determined that her four boys would never expect a woman to wait on them and that meant being able to help or better in the kitchen. Beyond that I was a preacher's kid so Mom and Dad were often gone to meetings, etc. so I learned to cook in self defense--it was that or cold food. After that I didn't marry til I was thirty-three and couldn't afford to eat out all the time. Hamburger and breakfast foods get old after a short while. The solution: use that cookbook Ma gave me. Then I married a gal whose mother didn't like to cook and therefore the last thing she wanted was kid help in the kitchen. Thus I've done almost all the cooking in nearly twenty years of marriage. A few years ago I had an extended stay in the hospital and our then four-year-old was surprised that Mom could at all.

Later,
Tom

You've had an interesting path, Tom. Being in the position of having to cook doesn't necessarily help you become a good cook! You had it in you all along, it seems. I'll bet you'll pass it along to your child, too.

Hi TMK welcome to the site. I would think that everyone here would agree with you, that every answer produces yet another question, and it never ends thank goodness, or where would the joy be?
