Left over meat

Don't know if this is the right place to ask but what do supermarkets do with fresh meat that is past its prime? A lot of it could be ground up for hamburger but what about things like corned beef?

If meat is past it's prime, why on earth would anyone want to use it for hamburger. The meat is either good or not - or am I missing some fundamental concept of hamburger?

I have heard it is used in some of the packaged marinated products, I hope not. seems I have also heard it can be used in the deli or foodcourt area?

This makes me wonder about freshness of frozen meat that I like to buy for convenience.

Do they freeze up very fresh meat for convenience sake, or do they freeze something just before they go bad?

Left over meat

I didn't mean to imply "spoiled" meat but rather meat that wasn't as "pretty" as when it was first put out. I wondered if they donated it to homeless shelters, food banks, etc. or just tossed it.

Years ago we used to donate it to food banks etc. However in todays day and age one must be very careful of the liability factor. In fact in Florida you cannot throw bad food in the dumpster ,as they are afraid you will poison the homeless that search the dumpster for a meal.

Are you freaking serious? If putting your dumpsters on private property and marking "NO TRESPASSING" is not a deterrent, criminals have more rights than property owners these days.

Attractive nuisance law isn't to protect criminals, it's to protect kids.

Not kidding, this is a Palm Beach County Health Department Regulation as dumb as it is. And yes today the criminal always has more rights then the victim.
