Sweet Corn!

Hi folks, I'm new here and I'm from Iowa!

We grow and eat our own sweet corn on our farm in rural Western Iowa.

I refuse to eat any other corn, as nothing else comes close to comparing to the test of the stuff we grow.

Any other sweet corn lovers on this forum?

By The Way, Any leads on wholesale buyers/markets/restaurants for fresh farm raised sweet corn?

I just bought a turkey fryer with a bigger burner. It will probably see more sweet corn than turkeys

Sweet corn tamales...wrapped in green corn husks....puree half the corn, leave the other half cut and whole.....sprinkle in maseca(corn meal for making tamales or tortillas)...drizzle in
melted sweet cream salted butter, and wrap em up and steam em for about
45 minutes....add maseca until mix has the consistency of roux....top em with mexican sour cream(or add a little butter milk to regular sour cream), salsa quemada(bad spelling), and queso cotija. Superb....I use silver queen corn when I can.

only the corn off your farm? that seems a little prejudice. are you sure you haven't found another corn you would like? I hear some people like Birdseye Frozen corn its supposed to be delici...bwahaaa...ok I am just jealous. I can grow tomatoes and squash and have a ton of fresh herbs. I just don't have the room for corn, at least not right now. hey fax me some would ya:D

Don't mind me, I'm just waiting for the bus.

Those tamales sound good. I could add some pulled pork or chopped brisket to it to!

Hey Nick C,

Welcome in!

Corn straight off the plant is the best - nothing can compare with it. Boiled up, slathered in real butter, loads of black pepper - nice messy good eating.

Plus you get to pick out the remains from your teeth for the next hour :)

Fresh corn!! We're beginning to get it in now here in southeastern Wisconsin, but I'm pretty sure it's trucked in from Florida. My only complaint is that it sits on the truck too long, so it's not the same and the farmstand stuff I can get in about six or eight weeks. That would be picked early in the morning and trucked to the stand by mid-morning. When you use it, it's only about 12 hours off the stalk. That 's the best I can do here, so far as I know.

Is it true you can actually hear the corn growing when the conditions are optimal?

Hi Nick C, Welcome
So envyous. Cant grow corn in Scotland, no matter how i try. All i get is earwigs and dissapointment.
~When i lived in England years ago there was a feild of it at the bottom of the garden. We'd boil a pot of waterand take it to the corn, where we cut it through a hole in the hedge and dunked it straight into the pot. Back to the stove pronto, with cold butter and salt standing by. Fantastic and free:D
