No Grenadine is made from some of the fruit, but the rest is fructose, corn syrup, flavorings and color etc. The extract is derived directly from in an unaltered state. One is a man made processed product the other is not or should not be. In cooking however the grenadine is sometime used because the kitchen does not have the xtract.
