well, the 'grenadine' you buy in the stores certainly is loaded with fructose and other garbage, but "real" grenadine, is usually simply cane sugar, pomegranates, water, and maybe some blackcurrant.

The cocktail bar I frequent (probably more times a week than I should) makes all their own Grenadine and some bitters even. (they even make/use Falernum!)

however, back to the OP's question, I'm not sure exactly "what" pomegranate extract is, (or what your specific interpretation is)
