Default cherry Dr.pepper

Hi, I was reading some of the posts here, and I was wondering if anyone knows what's happening or happened to the cherry Dr.Pepper line esp. the diet version. Here we haven't been able to find it and large grocery stores are only able to tell me it's not on their order sheets any more. Anyone know anything?

As far as I know, Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper is still going strong. In fact, I believe the Diet version outsells the normal Cherry Vanilla version by quite a bit (paralleling the sales of Diet Dr Pepper vs. regular Dr Pepper).

However, in Canada, I believe PepsiCo controls all the distribution, which is different than how it is handled here in the States. I had read that it had disappeared for a short time in the Great White North, but is reappearing in various markets. Why? I don't know. If Coke was controlling the distribution, I would say the reason for the disappearance would have to do with them favoring their in-house knock-off, Mr. Pibb. However, Pepsi doesn't have an equivalent, so why it's not seen, I'm not sure.

The U.S. version recently went through a repackaging to showcase the new label design. Perhaps that indicates a renewed interest in the drink. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine.

Oh no Foodpump there is definatly a difference between cherry Dr.Pepper and Cherry Coke I'm not quite sure what it is it could be Coke has a more vanilla taste ans is sweeter but I don't care for it cause it tastes like coke and I don't really care for Coke or Pepsi . Thanxs Steve for the info. Keep me informed if you hear anything more.

trulys,
Where are you located. I would love to send you some real Dr. Pepper. The original made with sugar. Since you are such a fan. There is not a drink that can come close.

I totally wish we'd see the end of high fructose corn syrup in the mainstream drinks these days. The real thing is so much better.

I thought i was drinking the real thing. Dr pepper was my dads favorite and so i grew up loving it now it's both my husband and i who love it but we try to stick with diet cause we're constantly yo-yoing the south beach diet to keep our weight in check. With me and my desserts that i make and him as my guinne pig if we're not watching we just slap on the weight . like to day i saw myself in the mirror which i try to avoid and i'm huge! i've gained 45lbs since in the last 2yrs and once again i'm making the commitment to drop it and that is so hard when i'm constantly around chocolate and amazing desserts and food. and i can't just cook with out tasteing, which i do for the desserts that are our standards, but when i'm doing something different well then i havvvve to tryyyy it. so the sugar in pop just seems like something that i do have control of. but i didn't know Dr. Pepper was different in the States than here in Canada. If it is I would love to try some cause yes we are great fans and the Dr.Pepper cherry vanilla is Dr. Pepper but even better with that vanilla after taste. I'm located in Manitoba canada

In the U.S., the majority of soft drinks are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, rather than sugar. This change seems to have been made in the late 1970s/early 1980s... some even speculate that part of the New Coke rollout/disaster and return to the Classic Coke formula was to implement HCFS. (I'm not sure about that rumor! )

Canada, as far as I know, still sticks with sugar as the primary sweetener, thus Dr Pepper should taste pretty much the way it was intended.

I wrote a little about the whole HCFS vs. Sugar battle when I reviewed Kosher for Passover Coke a few years back (yes, I know it's a silly name for a drink... but it sure is tasty!)

I agree, I'm sick of all the processed and unhealthy crap we are subjected to on a regular basis.
