Coke-Float?

I think I might have heard about this item from a diner somewhere but has anyone tried a root beer float style drink but it's made w/ Coke-A-Cola instead of root beer?

I'm sure it's a matter of personal preference. I love root beer floats, but won't waste good ice cream on coke float.

Growing up, on special occasions, Mom would make us floats with whatever "brown" soda we had on hand. Coke was used sometimes, but we bought cases of multi-flavored soda (think less expensive than national brands) from a local brewer and the soda might just as easily been cream or cherry nut or... BUT having said that, the favorite treat of all, were root beer floats from the local AW drive-in

Yep, we had Coke Floats growing up and I still make them sometimes today. Dairy Queen sells coke floats (or used to) on their ice cream menu. I've made them using chocolate ice cream which was really good and the traditional vanilla. Haven't tried any other flavors. I like a root beer float but for me, coke floats are the traditional way to go. Maybe because I grew up in Georgia? A lot of the summer hot dog drive-ins in Indiana have root beer floats. Then there's the old Dog N Suds chains that seemed to specialize in them....don't know where any of those are still open anymore.

iv always had coke floats, im not a big fan of root beer but do like coke. There very good but i havent had one in years, kind of makes me want one.

I actually quite like coke floats. I like root beer, but I'm something of a coke addict. Instead of coffee, I drink coke.

You know what else sounds weird, but that I like. Chocolate coke. Just add a bit of chocolate syrup to a glass of coke. Not too much, or it will be too sweet.

Thank you for that ajoe! It brings back so many memories of my dad. Whenever someone new came to our home my dad always asked them what they wanted to drink but then he would ask them if they had ever had a pine float. This always seemed to get a no response followed by my dad saying he would go make one for them. Once in the kitchen you could hear my dad banging away making a huge racket. After a few minutes of this he'd return and hand over the results of his effort. As children watching his routine it was difficult to keep a straight face each time he did it!

We grew up on a farm so many things we had were made by my mom. Root beer was one of those things. As the oldest child it was my responsibility to bring the hugh stoneware crock pots from the cellar when it was time to make pickles or root beer...with the constant reminder from my mom not to drop them! After the root beer was made and bottled it was time to make the ice cream. Not with the fancy electronic machines they have now but with the old hand-cranked models. Cream from our own cows was poured into the tub and we'd all take turns cranking that monster, each of us trying to outdo the other in the time spent on the crank. It took an eternity for mom to pronounce the ice cream ready. The root beer bottles would be grabbed, brought up from the cellar, poured over the ice cream and the feasting would begin!
To this day store bought root beer taste horrible to me. I just can't drink it. Thanks for those memories!!
