My Addiction (my new Apple ITouch)

For many years I have admired the beauty of Apple products but have never owned one. Actually, I take that back. Many years ago when I was in high school we owned an Apple 2e (yes I am showing my years) but beyond that nothing else.
About two years ago my co-workers put me under some pressure to trade in my 8-track player for an ipod. After months of deciding what model I should get I put my $400 down and purchased an ipod video. It was nice, shiny new and all that but honestly did not use it as much as I thought.
One of the most irritating aspects of purchasing apple products is that fact that whatever you purchase will probably be updated or obsolete within 6-8 months and that is exactly what happened. My thick heavy 80 gig iPod was replaced with the beautiful iPod iTouch. I told myself upgrading was stupid but it was such a beautiful piece of technology I could not resist. After all, my old iPod couldn’t get on the internet, check the weather, play movies on a beautiful 3 inch screen, provide beautiful maps and much more.
So what does any self respecting techno geek do? Hops on Craig’s list and sells his old one for half the price he paid and finds a new iTouch on Craig’s list for 100 bucks less than the retail price (still in the box).
Rarely will I push technology on a person, but I feel like an iTouch evangelist lately. Now I no longer have to make the trek down to the office to check my emails. All from a device that sits in my palm I can check the ChefTalk forums (delete a spam message), watch youtube videos, and find directions. I also have all of my contacts, my calendar, and all of my music and photos. And the kicker is it is all free (in a manner of speaking). Connect with an iTouch to any open wireless network (panera, or Caribou coffee) and you’re on the internet. There is no monthly plan you just connect to any WIFI connection available (and in Chicago they are just about everywhere). Check your email, open up a chat window through meebo.com and chat live with your friends, watch a movie and the list goes one.
So no more lugging the laptop around, I have my new iTouch and it is amazing. For those with more money to burn go for the new 3g iphone it is faster. I can’t help that having an iTouch or iPhone in the restaurant that has WIFI would be a great thing for any chef. No need to run to the office to check if you got an email response whip out your iTouch. Not sure about a recipe or ingredient do a quick search on google.

| |  I really love not having to lug a laptop anymore. I brought this to Canada and a lodge we ate at one night had wifi it downloaded all my email while I was eating and the kids checked up on the Cubs. |
