Advice?

I'm thinking of installing a fluorescent fixture under the cabinets which are 26 inches above the kitchen sink. The bottom of the cabinet measures 35 x 10.5 inches. Any ideas on how to best use the space and light for herb production? How far away from the light source should the plant be?

A lot of folks say to get the best range of light, use two bulbs: one warm for the red end of the spectrum and one cool one for the blue end.
You also need to be able to adjust the height of the light or the plants.
For seedlings, the lights should just be a few inches away, but mature herbs need more space and should be about a foot or so away from the bulbs.

How much are you planning on growing? Are you planning on starting from seeds? Is this just to start them before the last frost so that you can plant them outside after?
