We've been working on our backyard for over a year and there's still work to be done. When we purchased our place, the back consisted of green astroturf over a bed of sand. Now we have some plant life and things are beginning to shape up. Basil Tarragon Rosemary Thyme Parsley Tomato plants in pots Garden box w/radish, beets, carrots, peas, white habanero, chiles, green onion Fig, meyer lemon, orange & tangerine trees. before & current ![]() Last edited by shakeandbake; 03-17-2008 at 03:23 PM.

wow, this really reminds me that living in California makes things a lot easer, we are already into spring here and have 70* weather, i planted my herbs 2 weeks ageo and there doing good, i can understand for the people that live in areas with snow you have to use local farmers market, well good luck with this years crop, i want to go buy some thai basil this week and maybe some teragon if i can find it

For herbs I'm growing rosemary, thyme, lemon verbena, cilantro, chives, parsley, basil, dill, oregano and lavender. I've got roma, cherry, red slicing and late-season tomatoes, pole beans, sugar snap peas, watermelon, cucumbers, radishes, lettuce, habaneros, poblanos, jalapenos and California bell peppers. Also sunflowers for their seeds and 4 blueberry bushes. I don't like to plant it unless it's edible! Last edited by JennyLynn; 06-20-2008 at 09:37 AM. Reason: left out oregano!

I just sold a house in March with a great garden, its now July and I finally purchased another. But no garden, hopefully I will have a fall planting....I live in Phoenix so it is really inhospitable to planting now...average 110 degrees. But in the fall I will do chard, beets, peppers, and herbs, Thai or cinnamon basil will last the winter here, as will most woody herbs. I am going to plant Palo Verde trees to shade the garden in summer and let the sunshine in throughout the winter. I love my new house!!!!!!! but not the unpacking, I carted 20 years of crap with me, including over 600 cookbooks,...Yeah, its and addiction!!! Great summer gardening to all of you who live in an area that allows you the pleasure.

| I'll be starting Thai basil, Italian basil, and spearmint soon. They will be growing in 2 5-gallon buckets hydroponically once I gather a couple more supplies. I intend to add Thai chilies, cilantro, parsley, thyme, and rosemary.

This year at home, I have: 22 tomato plants jalapenos banana peppers bell peppers yellow straightneck squash cucumbers green beans garlic onion chives Grand Rapids lettuce basil At the shared family garden, we have: sweet corn green beans potatoes cantaloupe watermelon squash cucumbers tomatoes The ones we have in both gardens, I'll most likely end up using my own and not getting any of the others. We're sharing with another family and an elderly woman so I'll let them have the stuff there. Also, I am hoping to plant a small fall garden with spinach, more lettuces, and collard or turnip greens.
