Can I use the cilantro from the grocery store with roots and plant in the garden. Does it like full sun, heat, shade or am better off planting inside

Claudia welcome. You should be able to use what you get from the store. There are also a ton of garden stores, Home Depots, etc. where you can get it. It's definitely not too late to plant. It will welcome plenty of sun. You may want to get a live plant and then some seeds also so you can keep it growing all summer. When it starts to get to big, it will bolt and go to seed (Coriander) which is fine if you want Coriander. When you see the leaves start to get a feathery kind of look it's getting ready to bolt. I'm not big on drying excess cilantro, it loses its special quality. You can freeze it, too. Not great, but a lot better than drying it!
Here's a link to a nice long discussion on the plant.
