I have a brother in law who is a new chef - trained in Paris. I'd like to get him a Christmas gift - magazine or cookbook. Can you give me some recommendations.

I noticed one of the posters, as well as the moderator, spoke highly of "Saveur", would that be a good choice?

Saveur would make a great Christmas gift for a chef. Also any cookbooks are great. I love to get them. I find inspriation from any cookbooks, but you may want to find out what kind of cuisines really interest him. Cookbooks can get expensive so young chefs are always glad when someone else wants to help to add to their collection. Check out the rest of this forum. It should give you an idea what kind of books to buy.

I think he's eclectic in his tastes. He's Cajun. Went to Le Corden Bleu. He's not young, but he's a new chef.

I may look at some of the books recommended in your review.

The Making of a Pastry Chef is a wonderful book, great for a new chef so he can build and understand his pastry side.
