Going to Germany, What to get?

I am going to Germany for two weeks in March and I thought since I was there I might was well look for a new camera and chefs knife while I am at it. The camera thing I got squared away and anyways, this is a cooking forum!
A friend of mine here in L.A. told me that there are some knives that you can get in Europe that you can not get here. Since I know jack about cooking equipment...love to cook but never got into it....If anyone has some suggestions about what companies I need to keep my eyes out for. I have been thinking about Wufthof and I know you can get them here so if there isn't much better out there then thats cool too. I have a fairly decent buget set aside so any price range is fine, just know I am not a pro but any thoughts are welcome.

if you like german style knives. get the Wusthof for sure! Avoid Henckels.
be sure to put them in checked in luggage *LOL*
