i am buying anew 48" range. what brand, why?

Because we've had talks about this going back several years, be sure the information is fresh; appliances and brands change, what with all the mergers and acquisitions in the manufacturing world these days.

Personally, I vote for dual fuel (gas cooktop, electric convection oven(s).
