Yeah, but knifemerchant charges 10 bucks for shipping and cutlery and more has free shipping. Plus I tried to order from knifemerchant before and all I got was a bunch of errors and wasn't even sure where my credit card info went! Bad experience.

Gee, Chef Robert, I'm sorry to hear you say that. I've never had anything but great help and accuracy from them. I've always ordered by phone -- voice or fax -- never on the net. Maybe that made the difference?

Anyway, I almost never use my Bron, but use the Benriner frequently. For what that's worth...

Thanks for all that info about the Benriner. I had wondered how I'd ever replace the blades on mine. I'm still learning to use it, but so far, I've been really happy with it. One thing I've used it for is shredding cabbage for slaw. Sounds weird, but it is SOOO fast! Haven't learned how to do any fancy things yet, but I will.

Thumbs up

I found a Bron mandoline on eBay for $110, including postage. It was a retailer who had a lot, not the outcome of an auction.

It's overkill for me, but a real pleasure to use. The food holder was included.

I found the Bron on eBay about 2 years ago for $110. It was up for auction, but the seller had a bunch and he was willing to sell as many as you wanted for this price. It was new in a sealed box. It retailed for $165 of so around here.

The Benriner sounds pretty good for the low price, but I have a lot of fun with the Bron- including the waffle cutter. Mine came complete with the food holder.

It's a really nice tool and, suprisingly, easy to keep clean if you rinse it thoroughly, immediately after use.
