Post Mezzaluna

I'm looking to buy a Mezzaluna and accompanying cutting bowl. I've seen various prices, etc.(Wusthoff-Trident v. others). What is recommended/what do you use?

Yawn

I don't have any experience with a mezzaluna, but I don't believe you can go wrong with Wusthof.

Sorry, Deb, I'm not for sale. But maybe we can work something out!

I got mine from Williams-Sonoma and it is an Edelstahl. I like it just fine - just don't use it as much as I thought I would - got in when I had a fresh herb garden and I don't right now.

they're real pretty and all....i got a wustoff and the accompanying hollowed out cutting board as a gift.....

but i don't use it.

i find that rolling up the herbs tightly and chopping them with my chef's knife works far better.

i think the mezzaluna--even a sharp one like my wustoff--kind of smashes up the herbs too much rather than cutting them.

that being said....i have 3 mezzalunas (mezzelune?). but that's because i have found antique ones and hung them on my wall. one is a really cool "double bladed" one.

but on my wall they stay.....

SeattleDeb,

I have to agree with elakin. I would love to get a mezzaluna, a big three blade one. The thing is I would never use it. Although they work fast they tend to bruse some of the herbs, and not efficent enough for me. It is just like using two chef's knife to do the same job. It just does not get the job done fast enough.

For me, the best tool to chop herbs with, is a sharp 10' chef's knife.

With that said I know I will get a Mezzaluna for decorating my home buffets.
