Post Nenoxes knives

Anyone seen these knives? They are in this months Saveur(sp?) magazine of their annual top 100 favorite things. The knives look beautiful. Wondering if anyone has ever used one and if anyone knows where to get them? Thanks

I've been looking too. I have found the Masamotos, but not the Nenoxes, except for Japanese Web sites. If I find a dealer in the U.S., I will let you know.

I agree the Nenox looks like a great knife. Never underestimate the Japanese.

Uwagimaya, which is a Japanese owned store here in Seattle carries some knives. I will see if they have them, or if they can get them. I they do, or can, I will let you know that too.

I called Korin Japanese Trading Corp. and asked for their catalogs. Apparently, they do carry the Nenox knives. Their website is up, but is not really doing anything.

Their info is as follows:

TEL: 212-587-7021 / 1-800-626-2172
FAX: 212-587-7027
E-MAIL: info@korin.com

Hope this helps anybody interested.

Well, I got my Korin Japanese Trading Company catalogs today. What an eye-opener. The Nenox knives are $162 (parer) to $405 (30 cm. Chef's). Kinda expensive, but not so in comparison.

They have one knife by Masamoto in their Sohonten Collection that goes for $2,616 for a Yanagi! I can't even imagine. I guess you save that one for committing hari kiri. Can't imagine using a knife like that much less trying to sharpen it.

WOW!!!! Even $405 is a bit pricey. Come on HUGE tax return.

Thanks for looking into that. Did you have to pay for the catalog?

No, they didn't ask me to pay for the catalog. I just called and they sent them. They are really nice catalogs. Some interesting stuff.

Mad

Crudeau-
I've admitted to being a tool nut, but I guess I'm not impressed by the Masamoto Yanagi knife for $2,616. For about $1,000 LESS you can get a 3HP table saw which will cut up a **** of a lot more things than that knife!

Envy you being in Seattle. We lived on Bainbridge Island for 4 years in the late 60's and have missed it ever since. Great part of the world.

Mike

Gee, Mike. I guess I better pass your message about the 3 h.p. table saw to all the sushi chefs. I bet they never thought of that.

On a serious note: I cannot for the life of me figure out what would make a plain carbon steel knife worth $2,616. Those Japanese...they'll do anything for a laugh.
