Default Clean (maybe) plastic from the bottom of a cast iron skillet

Good day,

I was baking cornbread at 450 in my Lodge 12" cast iron skillet last night.

I took it out of the oven using an oven mitt with a dish towel wrapped around the handle. The heat went right through both in about 10 seconds and I was forced to put it down on a small kitchen rug. I believe the pile of the carpet was some kind of plastic.

The pattern of the rug is now on the bottom of the skillet.

Can anybody tell me what the best way to clean the bottom of the skillet would be? I love it and I'd hate to have to throw it out especially since I don't think I have to. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Michael

Unless you have some texture or labeling cast into the pan. you could scrape it off with a razor scraper.

Any remaining bits could be burned off on a high burner OUTSIDE.

Put the pan in the oven upside down, when it is hot you should be able to scrap the residue off.

Exclamation

Since it's on the outside of the pan, how about a circular wire brush in your power drill?
