Default Pizza stones

Hey guys.....
My mom received a pizza stone a few years back, but she has no idea how to use it, and after attempting to make a pizza on it once, she gave up, frustrated with it.
So now I want to experiment with it. How is baking pizza on a pizza stone any different than baking on a regular pizza pan or baking sheet? Is there anything you need to do differently when using a pizza stone? What about doughs? Does the dough need special treatment when using a stone? Also, would you bake at the normal temp. and time as when using a pizza pan or baking pan?
Thanks for any input!
