I have a Sunpentown SP 3000 hot water pot. It heats and holds 3 liters of water fairly quickly. I put only filtered water in it; we have a reverse osmosis system. I wouldn't think of putting our "softened" hard water in it!

Recently I noticed tiny little bits of white stuff floating on the surface of the water. It's the consistency of tooth paste. I don't wash the pot with soapy water; I just let it air dry. What could this material be? Do I need to worry? The operation of the appliance isn't affected at all.

I do tend to leave the pot on for many hours, sometimes overnight if I have to make a quick business of my breakfast in the morning.

If inside is aluminum, it could be aluminum oxide.

And that would be..... harmful? Fatal? Bothersome? How can I stop this?

Sounds like lime(the rock) fuzz. Boiling water with a high lime content can cause a fuzzy white deposit.

I agree water contain salt in it and when they are boiled they accumulate at the corner.

This may be true with regular tap water, or even filtered water...but with RO, wouldn't most of the minerals be eliminated in the process?

i could be aluminium oxide..or just clean the pot with dry cloth after use..dn't let it be wet ....

Fill it full and mix in an ounce of citric acid.. Boil and let it sit a few hours and drain.
