Question Peelers

Hello all,

Can anyone recommend a good vegetable peeler? I need one for a class I am taking. I have an easy grip OXO at home and wouldn't hesitate to get one for school, but I wanted to know if I was missing out on anything.

Thanks,

terrarich

Thumbs up

OXO is perfect for me! If you're happy with yours, you should get another one for class!

Default found on cook's illustrated site. . .

Find the best all-purpose peeler

Personally, I like the Y or Harp shaped peelers the best. I find that the pulling motion is quicker for me. And when you have several crates of potatoes or carrots in front of you, speed is a necessity.

[edit] just retried the link and you have to be a member of the site to access the information. However, here's a little snippet from Cook's Illustrated's tests:

So our conclusions are: If you want just a single peeler in your kitchen drawer choose the Oxo, which led the pack for its sharpness, comfort, and control. You can even hang onto it with wet hands. My kitchen drawer, however, has room for two peelers, so I’ll put out the $3.25 for a Kuhn Rikon Y Peeler for peeling squash, which, until now, I have always found to be a real nuisance.

Thanks everyone. I did end up buying another OXO peeler. I would have hated to leave my wife at home w/o a peeler if she needed one. This class I am taking is going to deprive her of the benfit of me cooking several weeknight meals, so she could use all the kitchen gadgets she can get her hands on!
