Besides, I called that stupid school this morning and asked for the contract in writing, as shroomgirl had advised me. I don't have any memory of signing a contract that says I have to pay to drop out. I am just frustrated with this school; all I can see in the people is selfishness; they don't care if you have money or not; and besides, that's what my sister told me.

Sleep

Hey everyone, I just recieved a copy of the enrollment agreement I signed with the stupid school in the mail this morning. It does say that I agree to pay the $25.90 fee for continuing my education with Harcourt, but at the same time, looking at the agreement closely, IT DOES NOT SAY THAT I HAVE TO PAY A CANCELLATION FEE IF I WANTED TO DROP OUT!!!! I can't find this stupid cancellation fee notice anywhere on the contract I signed. I feel that the school is just trying to steal money from me.

OK~ your not done yet, write them one more letter asking for clarification on cancellation fee, exactly where in the contract it states that you will pay for canceled classes. Just simple to the point.
Keep it brief.

Confused

Shroomgirl: I haven't written that letter yet but I will when I have the time. If you haven't seen it yet, go to my other topic in the Culinary Students' section, posted as "I Might Be Leaving For Culinary School Soon..." because it tells of how I have $100.00 saved up now and what I am going to do with that money. This money is cash; I have asked not to be paid in checks so that I won't have to open a bank account and so that the stupid Harcourt school can't steal any money from me.

Wink

I am starting to get confused about this "school". I just went to see a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor this morning and told him about this stupid school. He said the bills are the reason he never trusts any advertisements like this either on the internet or by mail. He also said that you can almost never tell when a company or advertisement is actually real so it is better not to trust these things. That having been said, I wish I knew that long ago but my mom never taught me anything like that so I didn't know.

My other concern is, does anyone get the "Value Pack" package in the mail which has all kinds of coupons and advertisements inside? This is where I found the stupid Harcourt Learning Direct. Someone just told me that the companies, schools, etc., that come in that package are not to be trusted because they are mostly scams. I never knew this until she told me that. I didn't hear of Harcourt until I found the information about this "school" in the ValuPack envelope. Can anyone give some advice here? Thanks so much in advance!

Confused

Shroomgirl: that stupid school had their lawyer call me again four weeks ago, and remembering what you told me to ask them, I asked them to mail me a copy of the paper in which a cancellation fee is mentioned. I never got it in the mail since they called me and they haven't called me since that time so that now it is giving me the feeling that they know they are harassing me for nothing and are afraid to give me any paper because the cancellation fee is not mentioned anywhere. Apparently they think I will tell everyone how they mistreated me so that it will put them and their business in a very bad spotlight for all to see, so they have left me alone. At least I am glad to have them off my back. They are just stealing if they keep harassing you to pay them money you don't really owe them.
