Wink Website Idea for Culinary Students/Chefs

Hi Everyone (It's been a while...I know). But anyway, I was sitting in my Computer Science class the other day (Advanced Computer Graphics) and an IDEA popped into my head. (Let me know if this is a conflict of interest...as I am posting this on a WEBSITE) Anyway, what would you think about a website where Students or Chefs can "store" their recipes. I mean it's like this... Sometimes when I go to parties or someone else's house and I end up cooking, sometimes I miss things in my dishes that normally would be there if I could just have that little reference sheet called a recipe. Since most people have computers nowadays, wouldn't it be so convenient to just go online really quick and lookup a recipe that is desired? Or what about when someone asks you for a recipe right after you have just cooked for excessive amounts of hours. The last thing you want to do is have to write, explain or do ANYTHING as a matter of fact. So then you can just tell them to go online, where you have your recipe "stored," and print it out. I mean I guess there are other conveniences that go along with that whole idea...but let me know what you guys think!

Thanks,
Isabel

OH MY GOSH! I have just been enlightened! I have just realized what my idea constitutes to. It's going to be just like an individual's personal online recipe book. Then if that gets going, then maybe I'll expand it to where people can post their recommendations about a recipes or what not. HUUUMMMM Let me know...

Thumbs up

PrincessIzzy, I think that is a good idea and if you want to see some of the recipes I posted on cheftalk for everyone's enjoyment, go to the "Recipe Exchange" section on this website. Hope you enjoy them! (P.S.-check out the "Peking Roast" recipe I posted in the "Recipe Exchange" section-every time I make this recipe everyone really enjoys it and asks me for the recipe! )

Thanks, but I think that the point of me posting was to ask comments on whether people are interested and if they see a benefit for themselves from me creating this website.

If, I understand what your proposing...I believe several sites are already doing this. They allow people to post their results, thoughts, etc...next to the recipes they offer as references.

As a service to people who want their own recipes on line??? There are programs (some free) for chefs to use as a index for their recipes. This allows chefs to keep their recipes private. Which most chefs would prefer....because some recipes are the secret to our success and we aren't willing to share those.

Then there are professional and amutuer sites for people to post and share recipes already. Like this site.

Maybe I'm not understanding???? How would your idea differ from what's already available?

Programs for personal storage and use would interest me, and others I believe.

I was thinking of it being more of a "personal" online database. Of course everyone will have their own login/password and they can store whatever recipes they like on there. I guess what I was shooting towards was like an online recipe book. I guess the convenience of a portable recipe book maybe appealing to some people and being able to access those recipes whenever needed is a vital part. For those who want others to be able to access their recipes, I'll have to think of a way where that person can be a "guest" that logs into the chef's account and are able to access the recipes in that person's recipe book only. It's more for individualized use rather than like the traditional recipe websites (say cooking.com). I mean there is always the option of making the website searchable in which people can just search for desired recipes. However, that is not my intent for this website. Like you said...there are programs out there that allow chef's to file away their recipes on their computer. KEYWORD: on their computer. Which means that you have to be on that computer, and that computer only to access your recipes. With the recipes online, you access them anywhere...as long as their is internet connection of course!

PrincessIzzy, this site sounds like it would be an excellent site. Could you direct me to the site? I would like to check it out. Thanks!
