Yawn

I would have to say that a master chef is a chef who has many years of experience and training and one who has taken cooking to a level higher than just creating great meals to satisfy their guests, but I also feel that cooking is a craft that in theory can never be mastered by anyone.

Master chef is really just a term used a lot when writing about chefs in newspapers or advertising materials. The title of C.M.C. or Certified Master Chef is a whole different ball of wax. "Soul of a Chef" by Michael Ruhlman is a good starting point of understanding of the test used to judge the all around abilities of candidates. The A.C.F. (American Culinary Federation) is the governing body who administers the test which is usually given at the C.I.A. (Culinary Institute of America). For more info you can check out the A.C.F. site.
