Wink Heard Washburne in Chicago was a good school...

I was told today that Washburne was one of the best schools for culinary arts. (This was per some civilians.) It is soo much cheaper. Is this true???

About 20 years ago, Washburn put out many great chefs. Washburn is a "trade school" and a branch of the Chicago City College's. Back then, the only way to get into this institution was to know somebody who owed someone a favor (eh! ju gotta problem wit dat?...dis is Chicago o.k.?) As of late, Washburn isnt considered highly in the culinary community. It is however doing what it intended to do many years ago: teach people how to cook so they can get a job. What with Kendell and CHIC in town, its hard to compete. The French Pastry School recently started teaching in conjunction with Washburn and I believe their program to be top notch. I have also heard that some of their students have been aprenticing at a few of our city's better restaurants (including Trotters). Maybe they are on the upturn.

I am just being really careful to not spend my money unwisely. I must admit, I want a good experience. I want a well-rounded program. I am looking at schools far away also. I honestly don't want to go to a cc or trade school, but if it was that good, wouldn't it be dumb not to go? Not so sure I should take my chances on it being on the upturn.
