Happy Chinese New Year to all!! I had my first taste of the 'serious' catering world on Saturday. I volunteered through my school for a gala/fundraiser that was arranged for 1800 people. Mainly we shucked oysters and giant clams all day, and in the evening, we were assigned to serving stations, offering hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour to all kinds of local celebs. It was such a glamourous affair! Dancers, light shows, ice sculptures, auction, etc... It was great! May I say, I have a renewed respect for all you professsional caterers out there! It was a wonderful learning experience and I hope there will be lots more. Any one else do anything for the New Year?

What I meant is that there are some traditional and extravagant Chinese dishes that are usually prepared for Chinese New Year. Beef Wellington ain't one of them! No complaints, I like Wellington once in a while too!

It was the Hong Kong connection...British influence you know, old chap.

British influence aside (remember, old chap, Hong Kong has been in PRC hands for several years now), I, for one, agree that Beef Wellington is exceedingly odd for a Chinese New Year's banquet. Even if they didn't wish to serve elaborate Chinese dishes, regular Chinese dishes would seem much more appropriate.

I don't believe her greeting and the catering were related. Just a guess.
