Question apprenticeship

A current resturant owner told me that I
should try to apply as a chef's apprentice
at a hotel or resturant rather than attending
a school. Any advice on how I can apply?

Grab the Zaggat guide for your area and select 50 restaurants you think you would like to work in.......write a letter that sells you as a person and what you are looking for.....include a resume......the guide does not have zip codes.....your local post office has a book with all the zip codes listed.......you will probably only get 10 or 15 responses but one of them will get you what you want... good luck

If you are dedicated, passionate, willing to devote all that you have and all that you are than become a true apprentice. What is a TRUE apprentice? Money should not, and cannot be an issue for you, you must find a chef who is willing to invest time and commitment, as you have and truly devote yourself to him or her. A chef from the European background is necessary. They have gone through the **** and hardship. It is difficult, but unequal. No school can ever teach and show like that of a true mentor. Good Luck.Anyone with questions about apprentices please free to e-mail me at 123raji@excite.com

try this, go to a school for 6 months (a little research will find most offer this) intence course, make industry contacts. they can set you up very well in an apprenticship overseas or in the states. I cannot say school replaces experience, but it can give you a leg up. many industry leaders "shop" the schools for talent, and where else will you get the chance to do salons and compititions? look into a short course and use the schools to your advantage to get more training.
