Default Project

As a school project we have to design a 3 course lunch to be served in March. Themes are encouraged. We have to come up with recipes, planning, flow charts etc. I have ideas but none with a theme.

Any thoughts? What works well in March?

Belated Valentine's Day (it's a guy thing! especially if we're married!!!)

When do the crocuses (little spring flowers... I can't spell if you haven't figured it out yet) show up? Saffron!!!

Given time, I'll come up with more.

If I'm going to serve a roomful of men with PO'd wives and girlfriends, I might as well stick to roast beef! (I think we can assume it's a business luncheon)

The crocus thing is interesting although I'm not sure that too many people make the connection between crocuses and saffron...

Can you decorate food with crocuses? Are they toxic?

Last March I did a GREEN DINNER....everything was green...
green lip mussels in an herbal mayo on an endive leaf
Salmon with a sorrel sauce
Fresh Pea soup with dillweed biscuits
Spinach pasta with morels, asparagus and a light cream sauce
Key lime Pie...with candied zest
Sugared green grapes
a green veined cheese...don't remember which one now....
Anyway it was fun.

March 19 is the Feast of St. Joseph. HUGE Italian festival. One of the days during Lent when the rules of fasting (pre-Vatican II Catholic thing) didn't apply.
How about an Italian theme.
Everyone does St. Patrick's Day so this might be different but you might have to explain....

Shroomgirl:

RE: GREEN DINNER

Question:

Where in the world did you find green salmon?

Ok. Here's what I'm thinking. (thanks for the inspiration Shroomgirl)

To go with the St-Patty theme without overdoing the green, I'm thinking the following:

- Sorrel pea leek soup
- Herbed cornish hen on basil potato mash (or spinash polenta? Maybe that would be too heavy for lunch...)For veg I thought I could use the colours on the Irish flag: roasted carrot/parsnip/something green.
- Trio of Irish cheeses with dark bread (and maybe sugared grapes? Shroomgirl, what did you use as an adhesive for the sugar? Eggwhite? Is that safe for eating?)

Any suggestions on how to lighten things up? I fear this might cause my guests to fall asleep after lunch...
