| I got acccepted into a community college AAS program called Culinary Arts. They also have an apprentice program, which takes longer to complete. I have several years cooking experience, and college credits to apply to the program. I can't decide which is the best way to go, or to go at all. I've learned much from both culinary school grads and chefs, who worked their way up the career ladder. Any thoughts? |

| I went the route of culinary arts program and then I apprenticed, so my advice to you is to make the choice that is best for you. I think a culinary arts program is a good road to take even if you have lots of experience, because it gives you time to upgrade your skills and learn new happenings in the culinary world. hope this helps.

| I went the same route also! I have accompished alot of learning in a full three year apprenticeship in conjunction with my schooling at a local community college. But you say you have already had a good number of years cooking experience. So maybe an apprenticeship isn't necessary. Maybe like coolj said, you can go for the schooling to reinforce the skills you've learned in the past and maybe also find other ways to advance your career knowledge-wise. I wish you great sucess in your findings and desires. [ 02-20-2001: Message edited by: layjo ] |
