There was a discussion on this topic last year (I think). I can't remember which forum it was in... Anyhow, people mostly went for the birkinstocks and Dansko clogs. Both of these are very good shoes. In fact, I know an french executive chef that travels the world revamping hotel kitchens, that swears by them. So much so, that he had the hotel buy everyone them at the King David Hotel (5 plus stars). Hope this helps. Stephen

I was in on the forum last year about shoes... i swear by a pair of clogs I wear... i used to wear Sven clogs, Birkenstocks, and Doc Martens. None hold up as well and are as light and comfortable. No matter what, my feet are never fatiqued. They are called Romisana.. I buy them at a little shoe store in Lincoln square named Salamander... I believe they are German shoes. THEY ARE THE BEST I"VE WORN FOR WORK.... EVER> Let me know if you need more info.

Birkenstocks are wonderful. You can get the clogs style in rubber, which can be run through the dishwasher from time to time....sorry,but it happens. Very durable, comfortable and nice looking.

I have a short achilles tendon and my podiatrist told me that Birks are not very good for the feet because your heel sets lower than the ball of the foot which puts a tremendous amount of stress on the tendon. I have a pair of DANSKO Clogs that I am happy with, the heel is higher than the ball of my foot and the firmness of the sole gives good back support.

Try Redwings. They specialize in work shoes. They're a little heavy but very sturdy with oil proof and non-slip soles. Made with good leather and lined in leather. They last a long time and are easy to clean. I wear mine for 10 to 12 hours a day and never have a problem.

i find that Dr Martens (unfortunately) seem to rot after excess exposure to water. Most leathers will go a little silly after repeated oil or grease spills (they tend not to breathe so well). I find in aus, that redback boots seem to hold their own (given that they are also dirt cheap). They are slip-ons, some what like riding boots.

I have swedish clogs wooded with rubber none slip soles had them now for over 5 yrs. and just starting to wear and getting scuffed up, I inter change them with a pair of Italian rubber ones . You need a heal if you are on your feet all day. If you do a lot of standing in one place a lot then wooded ones are better
