I was raised on banana and peanut butter sandwiches. I also add potato chips with chicken salad on white bread. And everyone in my family does the sausage -dipped-in-maple-syrup thing. The strangest thing I've ever tried was french fries dipped in chocolate ice cream at the suggestion of my then employer.

What's going on in here is thise strang food combos thread or peanut butter thread.

Ok strange combos. The food i cook for a living is very strange to some people but i think it works(lemon grass/ginger infused coconut milk polenta with dried shrimps and tamatind deep fried and served with fish sauce, lime and olive oil vinigret).
But my own personal favorites? When eating in a restaurant i'll sometime ask for some extra virgin olive oil in a wine glass. Awsome with appatizers. Just worm it up like a brandy, sniff and savor.

I like to combine raw tahini with fruit syrups or honey and eat with a dry pita(actually a palstinian breakfast). Also i'll rub a cilli on bitter chocolate before eating.

As a kid I loved velveeta cheese with grape jelly sandwich. Also peanut butter, jelly and bread and butter pickle sandwich.
The most unusual thing I have ever had though was fried grasshoppers at a party one time. No taste, just crunchiness. Not my favorite though.

I just remembered what a guest made a few Thanksgivings' ago. It was a red jello mold with balls of cream cheese rolled in chopped walnuts suspended throughout. She said that it was a family recipe. I kept on eating it because I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. Before I knew it, I had eaten all the jello and left only a few cheese balls. Although one of the most memorable food combinations I ever ate, I still haven't decided whether I like it or not.

Grilled p'nut butter and marshmellow sandwiches. Butter the outside like for grilled cheese, but put p'nut butter and marshmellows inside. mmmm gooey and sweet. My youngest son's favorite was baloney, cheese, mustard and p'nut butter sandwiches. It helped if you didn't look too closely as you made it...and it has to be skippy chuncky .

monpetitchoux,

regarding the cheese rolled in nuts, in jello...

don't the nuts get soggy?

It does remind me of our family tradition--we stuff canned bing cherries with cream cheese and suspend in black cherry jello. the jello is made with the cherry juice. I can't imagine a Christmas or Thanksgiving without it...

Hey! That's one of the two jellos we always had on the Holidays...except we had lime jello with cream cheese balls rolled in chopped walnuts. Had to be walnuts my mother insisted. And in a mold with miracle whip glopped on the top. The other one was lemon jello with grated carrots and celery chunks with pineapple tidbits....it was akin to eating the most hated vegetable you can think of. To this day we can't decide if it was because of the Lutheran jello thing or just sheer torture! Eat it, you'll like it they told me!

AAACCCKKKKKKKK!
I had blocked the horrible jell-O recipes from my mind. Your post has brought it all back. Every holiday gathering a well-meaning aunt or (more often than not)my mother would bring this dish. yuck yuck yuck.

Hi Lynne. Thank God someone out here knows what I'm talking about. The nuts were a little soggy, but that's also because the person who made it used them straight out of the bag and didn't toast them first. I think she might have even bought them chopped. The funniest thing is that out of everything that everyone else brought, I specifically asked her if she could leave the remains for me and practically begged everyone else not to leave anything. Normally, she cooks very bland foods, but this one really got a firm hold on my attention. Keep in mind the first and only time I had it was back in 1997. Though I still haven't decided whether I like it or not, I wouldn't hesitate to put it on my plate and ponder it some more. Your version sounds a little more intuitive. Plus I imagine the cherry juice would really make the jello sing. Did you check out the new issue of Gourmet? They are featuring molded gelatins in their tea party.

Miracle Whip? Miracle Whip!! Oh you just reminded me of something that I had years and years and years ago when I must have been either 6, 7 or eight. I can't even remember where I was except that my family basically tagged along with my aunt to someone's house for Thanksgiving. It was drained canned fruit cocktail mixted with Miracle Whip. I think this one deserves an AAACCCKKKKKKKK! as well .

All thos ethings with ketchup were pretty weird. 'Course to me, ketchup on a hot dog is weird. Any true Chicagoan knows ketchup is for the fries.

How's this one, though: Try cottage cheese with grape jelly and black pepper.

Or how 'bout scrambled eggs with BBQ sauce?

Peace,

I just thought of another one. It's been years, but Pringles dipped in McDonalds (yuck I know!) sweet and sour sauce. What was I thinking?
