Default Savory Strawberries ?

I just got 2 boxes of strawberries as a gift, and i dont want to eat them plain or make a dessert with them. I was wondering if there was a such thing as a savory strawberry recipe ?

You could macerate them in red wine vinegar and use the vinegar. I've seen this done with cherries and plums.

I was also thinking of Italian mustard fruits. I imagine that you could cook cut strawberries with sugar and pulverized mustard seed for a sweet, fruity, and hot condiment for meats.

Danny, I agree completely. The fruit is slightly acidic, so salty goes well with it IMHO (ham, etc.). We have a Chinese restaurant in the area that puts strawberries (also mango and other tropical fruits) in savory/salty dishes, especially with chicken, duck and seafood. People love the dishes.

I have always been a fan of cold starwberry soup with pink peppercorns. But the ultimate has already been stated. 35 year old balsamic and a napkin.

I vaguely remember a chef on Canadian tv, Michael Smith, roasting strawberries with pink peppercorns and serving them with a caramel icecream and balsamic glaze. The recipe for it might be on his old site http://www.innchef.com
