Sick

#1) Like it's SOOOO much trouble to make real coffee

#2) Gee, could we squeeze in just one more type of liquor in here? Four won't give me enough of a hangover. Maybe she should call this Long Island Coffee.

#3), Lets see, each shot of booze is more than 100 calories. Thank God we won't be picking up more form the whipped topping! That would have really blown the diet. Besides, artifical topping tastes best when mixed with artifical coffee, don't ya think?

....wait till you see the other crap on the menu! She goes from a Mexican-like appetizer to chicken & dumplings to a torte-like thing as well as this Viennese coffee cocktail-like thing. It's a real nightmare trip around the world!

Who is this person? What is her major malfunction?

I'm no professional and I can tell that this is bad... kindof like that time I put lemon juice in bananna daqueries. I swear that was the only lesson involving clashing tastes that I learned the hard way.

Hi, chinds85. We are talking about Sandra Lee and her Semi-Homemade show on the Food Network. She supposedly uses a 70/30 ratio of store bought/fresh ingredients in her menu. This is supposed to help cooks make easy, fast, delicious meals.

In reality, Sandra is not a cook, she's a decorator, her hubby supposedly is a big shot at FN and she has this bogus show that is hazardous to anyone wanting to learn to cook. Lots of unhealthy processed ingredients, artificial ingredients, unimagineable combinations, no culinary skills, and nonsensical themes.

Anyone who can merely make a decent meal at home will only watch this show for laughs (it is hysterical at times) that's how absurd it is. Yet FN airs and promotes it as a legitimate cooking show when I'm sure there are fine chefs out there that would love to have a show, and could teach good skills and recipes, but can't because this idiot is there.

Question

kuan,
Thanks for bringing up a good point. I stated that it was off their site, they allow for downloading and e-mailing recipes, so I didn't think it violated any copyright laws. But I read their rules and you are correct. I've edited the post. Thanks, again.

Kuan has an excellent point.

I've decided there's not much she'll make that I'd like, so I'm done watching her.

Oh, there's nothing she makes that I would like, but I can't get over the stuff, and each episode is good for laughs.

Kerryclan, all you do is gripe about the show, but you seem to be one of her most devoted fans. And if your goal is to see this woman off the air, then you are going about it the wrong way. All you are doing is encouraging more and more people to watch it, even if just for laughs. All the ratings systems, such as Nielson don't take into account whether a person likes a show or not, just who is tuning in to the show. So the more people you encourage to tune, the more you defeat your own "goals".

Point taken, Pete.

However, griping about he show is not all that I do and I, like most viewers, am not a Nielson household, so I don't think it matters what's watched or why in most cases.

BTW, a lot of people find this show absurd and enjoy going over the various epidodes & pointing out the offenses. There are several forums that have extensive, dedicated boards just for commenting on Semi-Homemade. The original thread on this forum was not initiated by me and all have had positive replies and interest. Nothin' wrong with a little lively fun is there?

Perhaps this forum is not the place for it.

Got ta' say, I've truely learned a TON from watching the Food Network. I find value in almost every show that's aired. However, Sandra's show has a specific audience and seems to be geared for people who can't cook well or can't do much for party decorations. Her recipes and decorations are a starting point for those without much experience. Can't say I've learned anything "specifically" from watching her show. But it doesn't mean that a novice can't.

Diplomatically yours!

Glad you have enjoyed the dialogue. I appreciate the post, redace.

I will also always give credit where it's do, so I have to say that yesterday's episode was an improvement. The menu was changed from what was on the FN site and yes, Sandy actually seared steak and made a kind of mole type sauce for the steak. It didn't look bad.

If this improvement is not a one time deal, perhaps the opinions expressed on various forums and viewer e-mail regarding the show are being seen and are having an impact for the better. I hope so.

Note: The cocktail and dessert were still old Sandy!

Kerry:

I have found your posts and reviews of Sandra lee to be an absolute pisser. I have been signing on to ChefTalk more, just to see the latest posts about her. So Cheftalk's ratings have gone up!

Nevertheless, the constant critiquing, for whatever reasons, starts to get on some people's nerves.

It was fun while it lasted.
