Post Anyone grow any citris plants?

Cape Chef's topic on herbs got me wondering if anyone here grows their own citrus plants.

I understand they're pretty easy. I'd love to grow some.

Hey C,
I had a Kaffir and a Key Lime trees up until two weeks ago. Then the state (Fla.) came by and took it away claiming that they (my trees) had citrus canker. My did not have it, but for the better of the industry...
Anyways to answer your question, they are easy to grow. They need full sun light, this is so that the plant will bear fruit. Watering, you need to water throughly and let it dry out between waterings. The plants do not like to be water logged.

How sad, I'm sorry to hear they took them away, what did they do, drive around and look in yards?

Cchiu,

Sorry I did no answer your question earlier. Here in Fla. there is a citrus disease called citrus cranker. It makes the Citrus plants/fruits very ugly. The disease spreads very fast. So if they have to take it for the better of the community... so be it.

So what the govt. did, is to go around and destroy any plant with the disease or within a 1000 ft of another infected plant. So if they have to take it for the better of the community... so be it.

Yeah, we have a beautiful Meyer lemon tree. Dlee is right about sun and water.
Anyway, sorry to hear about your trees Dlee. I think my heart would break if the Meyer lemon tree got taken away. I love it.

cookM,

Thanks, for the sympthy. The thing is both plants took me almost six months to find. Then I only had them for a year waiting to reap the benefits.... Not....

If you're in the right spot with plenty of temperate weather, sunchine and rain (i.ee. California, Florida) growing citrus trees isn't hard. Outside those states, good luck.
