The mash incident last night I have to tell everyone this episode that happened last night. Even now as I think of it, I can't stop laughing.
My buddy is getting trained on my station because I'm leaving as of the end of the year. So I took his station, which is hot apps, and I work right next my station, which is entremet. Anyways. There's a 25 top of nothing but but mash a starch and veg. I tell him at the begining of the shift to make sure he's got enough mash for the whole party. So we are in the middle of sending the large party and I notice that he's running in and out of the fridge. I'm too busy keeping up my own station and having to send his other tables to really notice what he's doing. All the while he's taking julienne potatoes and throwing them in the steamer, because he ran out of mash in the middle of a large party. The next thing I know, he's throwen the soggy julienne potatoes in this little kitchenade mixer with the whisk attachment and too much potatoes in the bowl.
Potatoes go flying everywhere. I mean everywhere. I then take notice of what this poor fool is doing and the look of total terror on his face. Our chef is this really mean French *** who will ripe your eyes out if you screw up and this thought passes this kids mind as he is bombed by potatoes. Chef takes notice that somethings wrong and starts screaming to hurry up. He can't see us at this point. I made extra mash as part of my mise because I knew he didn't make enough and I throw them in the microwave while tossing him a towl to start cleaning up. The whole time we are being compleatly silent so chef doesn't suspect something. Well, the silence makes chef come around the corner just as we are wiping up the last of the potatoes. We sent the table but the total look of fear on my friends face was enough to keep me laughing till the end of my career. Especially how he was literally bombed by potatoes flying out of the mixer. It was a nice try though. Any other funny stories about absolutley comic scenarios?
