I believe in general men do not follow directions well. Like putting the bike togeter. They prefer to do it on their own. Women read directions. Iam assuming in the kitchen it would work the same way. I usually glance over a recipe and then do it.The second time I will make it up add and take away ingredients. Therefore my baking skills are horrible. I will have to learn to follow the recipes more carefully. Danielle

I work sideXside with both men and women everyday in the kitchen. Some observances: Women screw off less. Women are neater. Women are more time efficient. Women will not screw with a set- in- stone recipe. Women certainly smell better. Women are less prone to show up with a crippling hangover. The only time I prefer to work with another man is during a very hard slam and you're deep in the weeds. My experience (and I'm not dissing anyone) has been that men are simply more durable during a five hour line jam. Women are generally a joy for me to work with. Much less bulls%$t to deal with. Women don't throw entire prime ribs at each other.

I think there are men and women of all cooking types. I know more women than men who follow recipes slavishly, but I think that's because a lot of women who weren't cut out to be creative cooks have the responsibility for feeding a family, but with no training, have no confidence in their ability. I know both men and women who have so much confidence in their ability they can't follow instructions to save their lives, then can't figure out why the recipes don't work. A lot of people who cook from instinct and never use a cookbook turn out tasty meals, but are never creative. It takes all kinds.

Katherine, With all do respect. I know so many cooks and chefs myself included who cook by instinct. And we are certainly creative. Most of the finest chefs and cooks in the world cook by instinct. many people can not even afford a cook book or subscription to a culinary magazine. The hard part is taking your god given talent to cook and translate from pen to paper. Creativity is about freedom to explore not to be bound or not challenge the written word cc

Men don't follow directions well? Heck, even when I'm driving I'll stop and ask for directions before the missus does.
