Yeah, at night they become a nightclub. It's called Athens Cafe. It's trying to be all things to all people.

well, live to cook, i not completely sure of XO down to the finest detail. However from memory, i can remember this: dried scallops, dried shrimp, dried chillis, lotsa garlic, a few other things.

If you can, get down to your chinese/asian store and see if you can source some "lee kum kee" - this brand is legendary. They carry just about everything in sauces like hoisin, char siu and oyster sauces - XO is a little pricey, but it goes so well with seafood, especially shellfish.

The funny thing is, i used to think that XO referred to cognac in chinese cookery, due their love of the stuff, that has a lot to do with me staying away from the stuff previously.

I mentioned in a previous thread that there's an El Salvadoran/Chinese joint here in Bawlmer. Not really a combo, though, since the El Sal is on one side of the menu and the Chinese on the other. It is, however, the pinkest place I've ever eaten in; sort of like sitting in a giant wad of bubble-gum!

Nick.Shu, I've seen plenty of Lee Kum Kee sauces in local Asian joints... I have their oyster sauce in my fridge... but never seen XO bottled. You can get it there?

yes we do, i have a 220g jar (7.8oz) - the discription is: Lee Kum Kee XO sauce extra hot. The ingredients are: soybean oil, dried shrimp, conpoy (dried scallop), red chilli pepper, shallot, garlic, oyster extractives (probably oyster sauce), hydrolyzed soy protein, shrimp roe, sugar, spices, salt, MSG.

The barcode No is:7889540701.

The irony is that the owner of lee kum kee was drinking with my mother at my cousins wedding. Bizzare huh.

In every city there are restaurants that have neon sign stating they serve Italian & Chinese food. My mother always refuse to each in such restaurant saying that when you offer too many things it usually mean the food will not be good.

Oh, I beg to differ in at least one instance. Place called Woo's in Atlanta. Big place, mostly Chinese customers...which is good. Menu on the walls on giant posters in Chinese. Waiter comes out with two huge menus. I take one look, fold them up, look at the waiter and say, "What would you recommend?" He recommends a Chinese Shrimp dish and stir fried beef with fresh asparagus (it was asparagus season). Wonderful.

I stand corrected most chinese restaurants do have larger menus than 2 page....
but as a rule of thumb if you got too much food on the menu it all doesn't rotate....

umm, im looking at a version of "huervos rancheros" topping a chargrilled or grilled steak. (heheh, steak egg and chips, so to speak)

The only thing is: should i use a demi or a spicey tomato coulis - get thinking guys.
