Online Recipe Box

Hi All! I'm new to ChefTalk.com and am curious where the rest of you store your recipes? I know there is a recipe forum here but do you have an online 'recipe box' somewhere where you store them as well?

Hi and welcome Eric, I'm a newbie also!!

I use the MasterCook9 program to store my recipes, so don't store online. (oops, I think I've saved a few on Epicurious when I've rated one of their recipes)

Everyone will be different since what works for some, isn't so good for others. Some cook from cookbooks, others will use places like allrecipes.com, epicurious.com or other similar services that have their own systems. Probably most use MasterCook. Others make text files and store them on their computer or on disk or other storage medium, others print them out and start their own cookbook reference in a binder.

The convenience of storing online is that if you're somewhere else and need the recipe, you have it. But if it's in a cookbook and you can't find it online, then you have to type it in.

My PDA holds most of my recipes. On my old Palm, I would copy and paste recipes into individual memos. Worked well, even at camp. With my new Axim (Windows Mobile) I can actually surf on it in the kitchen or pull up my PC files. I also have a good chunk of my PC's cooking files on the Axim now so it's very easy and always with me.

Hi Phil. Technology is wonderful isn't it! Do you like to still have a hard-copy (printed version) in your kitchen when you're preparing the dishes?

No, electronic is fine, if the recipe is in there. I use books plenty in the kitchen too. With the PDA, it's also easy to jot notes straight into th recipe without having to transcribe anything later.

I"ve been using Living Cookbook, but recently my computer crashed and I lost the recipes. I hadn't backed up the file in a while and my computer wonk husband was unable to salvage them. Fortunately my "heirloom" recipes (from my mom and grandmother) were in Word files or longhand. Now I have an automatic backup that runs every hour to backup my hard drive.

Electronic is fine, but BACK UP YOUR FILES!!!!

Very true. My cooking directory also lives on a USB key and numerous CD backups.

If that is their preferred method of communication, then yes.
