Default Just joined the site and just learned to cook. Help needed please.

I don't know where to start on creating recipes. Should I get some more cooking knowledge before creating recipes? I'm getting confused here.

If you're just learning to cook and wish also to create your own recipes, you will have to learn the "why" of cooking, along with learning the "what."

For getting started on that dual path, I recommend that you get Alton Brown's "I'm Just Here For The Food" book. It (along with the sequel, "I'm Just Here For More Food") will take you through the basic cooking techniques, teach a few recipes and give you ideas for building in your own variations.

OOO excellent advice on the books! I think I am going to have to pick those up myself!

Amen to that! There is an unbelievable amount to learn about food before you can start to develop recipies of your own. Not that I'd want to discourage you from trying - far from it. But you really need to know the science and chemistry of food as well as flavor profiles. This can take years. My advice to you would be to learn to cook following tried and true recipes before you get too far ahead of yourself. Also, if you are not dedicating every waking moment to the task (that is to say , if you have a "day" job) getting to the stage where you are developing recipies of your own will take even longer.

Default Thank you.

Thank you everybody. I think I should learn a lot more cooking before creating my own recipes. I already know my culinary passion, so that would probably help. Healthy, Bold-flavored meals. Thanks guys!
