Hi folks ! Foodi here !
The conversations about copyright law and the debates that ensue are endless and have caused some forums to temporarily almost self destruct where if it was reality folks would be going to their cars to grab the gauge and commence to shootin ! One problem ....way too many uninformed
"experts" and just as many myths to muck up the waters....
The fact is this whole subject spends a good amount of it's time lurking in the dark recesses of another dimension where no black or white resides . The laws in place are under constant scrutiny and reinterpitation and feebly try to maintain pace with the advances with technology falling woefully short.
Making assumptions on your own as to the opinions and preferences of the original author won't cut it . The term "used with permission" should be taken literally and respected. Most copyright cases fall into the category of civil law but some are slowly moving towards criminal .The fact that you didn't make any kind of profit will only impact the amount of the damages when you get to court...Pay closer attention to the description and method of a recipe and not the ingredient list so much. Just because a work is not published doesn't necessarily mean it is not protected. Just because the original author is dead doesn't mean his work is now under the fair use arena. And the list goes on and on ....
All I can say is that after extensive reading on the subject a lot of what I thought was true ended up not being as I had heard
A word of friendly advice would be to read, research and educate yourself a little before doling out advice to others concerning this . There are whole law firms out there who have spent the better part of their adult lives studying this and still haven't figured it all out it is so complicated. Even if you are still just as confused after you read a bunch don't feel bad ...your not alone ! Some interesting reading tho !
.....So I suggest you go to these 2 places and read !
