Unhappy Carnival Cruises:'Gastroenterisits'

please understand: for us here in moscow (Russia) this is a one liner in the news...
as far as I know sanitation standards are extremely high on ANY line ( I also worked on ships. but not around the USA). also staff are being checked very strict so they are all healthy.
on the cruise apparently 1/3 of the passengers became sick after a short time on board.
the comment here on the news says reason is suspected ' products not up to standard', how can that be or better how can that happen?
suppose i would not like to be the CHEF/ F&B Director on that ship...

The problem may not have been a food-borne illness.

The blurb I read is that some passengers boarded in Italy already sick. Norwalk Virus is highly contagious.

There have been outbreaks of this virus repeatedly on cruise ships the last few years.

I would like to think a lot are human borne illnesses, although disgusting, I've known some mid-rank cruise lifers. Wouldn't surprize me in the least.
