Default yes, I am cooking..dog biscuits

Ok here's the scene..... return home from grocery store and begin putting things away. Go to put the tea in the cabinet and see the empty container of dog treats.... so I say "Oh sh&%, forgot to put Milk Bones on the list". Realize that dog "dessert time" is coming soon, and figured if they had no dessert, that my family may find me dognapped and held for ransom (the note would probably demand a bacon wrapped fillet- but since no one else in my house seems to be able to cook- I'd be doomed!) Anyhow I have 3 dogs and since 2 of them are upland game hunters and keep me stocked with all the quail, chukkar, and pheasant I can cook (the other dog is just a 90 lb doorstop)- I figured they deserved their treats. Sorry, I digressed.... Anyhow, I thought, I know that with a recipe, I can pretty much cook anything. So I got on the internet and found a recipe for homemade dog treats. So I made the pups their treats and they loved them.... my kids came in and asked what in the world I was cooking.... (for some reason they didn't want to try them...??? ) it was weird to think about baking dog treats. So my question to everyone is---- what is the most unique or weirdest thing you have ever prepared- either professionally or at home???

Default mmmm....

I don't even have a dog but have made the treats with bacon fat, garlic and grains....they were pretty darn good!

My friends dogs woofed them down pretty quick.

I cook for my parrots. Besides eating people food, they also get a soft mash/porridge type of stuff, and bird bread, which contains seeds, whole grains, dried fruit, etc. My mother accidently ate some bird bread one day and said it tasted fine but it was "a little seedy."

FYI, Bo Friberg's book "The Professional Pastry Chef" has a recipe for dog biscuits in it.

KCZ,
I would like the recipe for bird bread if possible. Our Conure eats the same food as we do but does not have any special food or treats. We have some B&B plates and I just make an extra small plate of whatever we're eating. He eats just about everything.

I cook for my husband.

Actually, for a few years I consulted to a company that wanted to make "gourmet pet food" (for cats and dogs). A human could have eaten the formula they came up with; the only really odd thing in it was bone meal, everything else was people food. Anyway, I still have a number of dog food and cat food cookbooks that I bought then, in case I had to develop recipes for them as well as set up the production line.

From the front screen it the title of the thread appears to be that you are cooking dog...glad to get in the thread and see that it is dog food, not actual dog.

LOL..... not dogs.....just treat for them. I actually expected people to have shared some weird things that they have had to prepare (not necessarily just pet foods) ..... but we ended up as a pet food thread instead...... oh well
