| |  celery bulb?
Hi,
it is more a translation problem.I live in Spain but do not speak castellano very well.  I am looking for a vegetable that I used to use a lot in Hungary where I'm from. It is called celery in English,but I am not looking for the stick of the celery,but the bulb.Every time when I ask for 'apio' (which is the translation of celery according to my dictionary) they give me the green,long stick of the vegetabl.Please, if anyone know it,tell me under what name do I have to look for the bulb of the celery.Is is available in spain at all?(You can make marvellous cream soup of it...)

Could it be celeriac that you're talking about?

yes,thanks,the proper name is celeriac.But it is still in English.Spanish do'nt understand this.
But the soup is great,isn't it?I make it with pear and rosemary.

My San Salvadoran restaurant manager tells me that celery is "apio" in Spanish. I don't know if celery root is the same or not. |

apio nabo sounds like the italian version of celeriac or celery root, that is sedano rapa, meaning turnip celery. Navette is turnip in french, so nabo might well be turnip in spanish since it sounds related.
Maybe you should rename the title of your thread, though. If you ask about celery, you won;t necessarily get spanish speaking people opening it. If you called it "Anyone know the spanish term?" or "spanish for celery root?" and you'll get all the spanish speaking people opening the thread, rather than all the celeriac fans. Then instead of us non-spanish speaking celeriac fans having to guess, you'd find a spanish speaker who would KNOW! |
