Well now that we are through with Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Superbowl, and Valentine's i guess we can relax! ... oh wait.. now we have Mardi Gras, St Pat's, Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers Day and the **** 4th of July . Can I just say I LOVE AUGUST, and the first person to designate a major holiday then, will be carved and served with fava beans and nice Chianti! Just had to vent a little and didn't know where else to post it... anyone else with me on this? ![]()

Our family ignore Valentines, Fathers Mothers Day holidays. They're just commercialized buy and give to assuage guilt and pressure. People deserve love and respect all the time, not once a year. The sales on Presidents Day disgust me. Phil

In the UK we have Pancake Day - aka Shrove Tuesday (this year falls on 20 Feb), then Mothering Sunday (not to be confused with the USA's 'Mother's Day' - even if many of our cards now use that term on the front!). Mothering Sunday was a day when apprentices and servants were given the whole day off (!) to go to church with their mothers and fathers. I love both of them, simply because they are an excuse to do something 'different' in the still cold, wet days of Spring-time here in the UK. ![]()

Now that you mention it Jayme, we have 6 birthdays in August! (i'm a chef in a retirement home) and we do big dinners for each one (the residents choose the meal) ...and most with several homemade pies and ice cream. Of course I may just take my vacation anyway and let the rest of the staff have a ball with it this year. ![]()
