Default Never had this happen before!

Many of you may find this funny, but in 50 years of breaking eggs, I never broke one open to find two fully formed yolk sacks, in one unspectacular Grade A Large egg. Until last Sunday!

Now I am curious if this happens regularly or not??

Guy at work here says its a sign of good luck! I could sure use that!

It is good luck and I have had it happen a few times. It makes for tasty eggs over medium.

I once cracked an egg and found a partially developed, I guess the proper term would be, chick fetus inside. That was a little less cool. I didn't eat eggs for a really long time after that.

Some years ago my GF and I were preparing breakfast and found THREE double-yolkers in a package of a dozen eggs. I've never gotten a double yolked egg again.

One time at work we had a case of eggs (30 dozen = 360 eggs) that was about half double-yolks! Fortunately, it was for the hors d'oeuvres fillings, not the doughs, so it didn't throw us off much.

I've heard that egg suppliers candle the eggs and separate out the double-yolkers for commercial clients as most consumers don't want them. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

I'm not sure if they do...but it seems to make sense. There is a restaurant near us that serves all double yolks for breakfast. You get six yolks for three eggs. Mmmmm.

It happened to me a couple times, and they were delicious! But does that mean that this egg could have made twins? That is funny

And this is why we should use liquid measure.

Imagine someone at home just starting out learning how to bake and coming across this!

Some UK supermarket chains used to sell cartons of eggs advertising that they were all double yolks!

Haven't seen that for a while, though.

I've seen one in the past. I worked in an egg shipping plant. My job was in the factory part where the eggs are sent down a conveyor, washed, and put into cartons. I had to put the cartons in boxes to be shipped. I never noticed them inspecting the eggs but that could have come at an earlier stage. I never worked outside the plant area. In fact, my time there was short lived. That was the nastiest job I ever had!

Like some others have mentioned, I used to see double yolked eggs a year or few ago, sometimes 3-4 in a dozen. Kids thought it was cool. Haven't seen any in awhile...... gotta wonder why? what were they feeding those chickens back then?
