Default Tlacayos, Huaraches... yummy!

Just had Huaraches "al pastor" for lunch. Makes me wonder how these Mex-tex-american restaurants still survive. Does anyone even eat tacos in premade shells with ground beef boiled with "taco meat seasoning" and canned salsa anymore?

Sure. They wouldn't if they tasted the real thing (mmmmm, tacos de lengua ), but not everyone is so lucky to have access. Then again, some people are afraid of the real thing. They have my sympathy. But they can't have my tacos.

And millions of Americans (and even foreigners) go to McDonalds all the time and think that they're eating hamburgers.

Cheap swill for the masses always has mass appeal. (I'm not really as snobbish as this post makes me sound. But when it comes to food, maybe I am.)

I have been trying for years to get my wife and kids to eat authentic Mexican food. The only one I've brought to their senses is my oldest daughter. When I was stationed in Spain they had no choice as there wasn't any McD's or Taco B's, I loved it they couldn't wait to get back to the states.

Default Mexican

Recently we had Mexican night at my house. This met with enthusiastic responses until I served my taco chili with tortilla chips and refried beans. It was met with a very loud 'what, no tacos?'. I tried valiantly to explain that I do not run the Taco Bell establishment, therefore I would like to serve some good mexican food instead of sludge, but they would have none of it. SO, the next time we do mexican, I'm going to just call Taco Bell and have carryout. Maybe I can make homemade churros and just eat those.
