This weekend I'm going to try brining a turkey. My first try. I hope it turns out well. I am going to use Cooks method. Wish me luck.

Hey Jesse, I am trying out the brining technique also from Cook's. Let's compare notes on the outcome.

Good luck with your brined bird, Jesse. I won't be cooking, but my brother will: prime rib and, no doubt, some very innovative sides. He's doctor who used to use his days off to cook instead of going to the golf course... Tonight is night #2 of Chanukah I'll be making a very small batch of latkes since we're going to Florida tomorrow. I could eat 5 pounds' worth myself! Pass the sour cream....

I think it'll be the standing rib beef roast, crusted with cumin and fresh horseradich, seared and smoke-roasted over hickory...

gorgonzola and roasted garlic mashed potatoes

caramelized roasted carrots

shaved fennel salad with feta and honey

quick-pickled Vidalias in lime juice and cilantro

sing with me now: "These are a few of my favorite things..."
