I always have problems getting fresh jicama in my area .It comes in moldy so most of the grocers have quit carrying it. What is a good substitute ? I've tried water chestnuts but they just don't compare in taste.

Where do you reside, and what type of preparation are you using the Jicama for? Have you tried Mexican or Latin American markets? ------------------

Well as for for substituting an ingredient for Jicama, you could probably use some fresh turnips in place tossed with a little pineapple or apple juice. How were you going to use the jicama?... Hope this helps any. ------------------

Thank you. I assume I can use the turnips raw in salads.
