What is the best way to grill whole Maine lobsters? Thanks.

Although not exactly the answer you are looing, for, I split the lobster from head to tail, rub with blended oil and dredge in cajun spice. I garnish it with toasted corn and pineapple relish. I like the mellow flavor of the lobster, the 'bite' of the spice, the smoke of the grill and the sweet from the salsa. Good luck.

Thanks, Jim. I was really looking for specifics, such as amount of time, do you need to parboil them first, etc. Thanks again.

Cookiemom, Sorry for being so vague. I set the lobsters on a moderately-high heat grill for around 8-10 minutes. Unfortunately, the heat of your fire, size of your lobsters and other variables will all contribute to variances in cooking time. My suggestion would be to experiment. Cook one until you think its done then rip it apart. Not done? Try again. Over done? Start over. Good luck.

Thank you, Jim. That is a little more helpful. A friend is anxious to try grilling them, and I don't think he really wanted to "experiment". But, I guess he doesn't have a choice. Keep up the good work!

Just want to add to Jim's reply, I like to lift the tail out of the split shell a bit, and brush some herb butter on the shell, reinsert the raw lobster meat and grill. The butter in the shell helps baste the meat while grilling.
